Chanel takeover could see jobs rise
There is now hope that Barrie Knitwear may soon be able to try to expand the number of workers at its factory in Hawick, after being acquired by French luxury fashion brand, Chanel, writes Mark Entwistle.

Two weeks have passed since news of the famous company acquisition of Paris-conditioning Barrie city Burnfoot Industrial Estate.
Last week TheSouthern reported relief felt the city, an agreement was finally signed back up, 176 workers jobs and the future of a local 140 years.
There were months of anxiety for employees by parent company Dawson International, entered administration in August due to problems with the retirement.
But this week, Barrie CEO Jim Carrie, TheSouthern said was "very positive feelings return" there is a in the factory, now that the uncertainty about the future has been removed.
"The employees have gone through a difficult period of their lives, but their continued commitment to Barrie was an important factor in this period," we said Carrie. "The relationship between Barrie and Chanel have always been very strong and it was a lot of trust between us. Daily working relationship with Chanel could not really be much stronger, but the strategic plans are developed to investigate how the company can use Barrie to grow by Chanel. "
Asked if there is any chance, an increased number of workers, said Carrie TheSouthern: "The numbers that we can hope to increase to employees at some point that the strategic plans are developed and implemented, and we begin our initial discussion about the future in the coming weeks.
"The main thing to remember at this point is that the events of the last two weeks have been great news for Chanel, Barrie, and especially for the employees."
Addressing TheSouthern its subsidiary in Paris, president of Chanel fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky, pictured above, said undeveloped acquisition reflects the high esteem in which Chanel instead Barrie crafts and skills, and demonstrates the importance of the mesh in the collections of the French company.
Mr. Pavlovsky visited twice and Hawick factory Barrie - once for negotiations and a second time last week to meet with staff.
And the issue of Chanel famous flamboyant artistic director, the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld visit Hawick earlier said a spokesman Chanel us: "It is not on the agenda, but we'll keep you posted, he's decided to visit.
