of Kreayshawn 'Somethin' 'Bout Kreay is almost, but not quite debut sold worst in the world
Guess we need to tick off our Kreayshawn Hottest Under 30 list. The "Gucci" rare tress broke records with his first LP, but probably not the documents they were seeking. Kreay Bout Somethin '"was widely praised on the Internet as the worst selling album in music history, and although this is not entirely true, the numbers are pretty dismal.
Chanel Cross Body bags
As it turns out, the real worst debut ever MTV VJ Jesse Camp, according to the LA Weekly. His first 1999 Jesse & The 8th Street Kidz sold a 2600 single copies (in a pre-Internet piracy) compared to Kreayshawn 3900.
But expect during a first MTV VJ preview would these low numbers, what's amazing about the underperformance Kreay Bout Somethin 'is that Kreayshawn is an artist more people - or it was last year, anyway. "Gucci" has over 38 million views on YouTube, which is about 10,000 times as many views as copies of his album sold. This is a big difference, proving that at the present time, while the iron is hot is the key. Apparently even the die-hard "Gucci Gucci" fans have been changed since last summer. (And this terrible album title could not help.)

Delight is not always in the details
Melanie Ward, a stylist who worked closely with Helmut Lang in the 1990s, Karl Lagerfeld and his label short in New York, here backstage at Versace. Donatella Versace was to explain so close, why his collection was so thin, Ms. Ward, offered her stylist again some practical wisdom.
It is always a good sign, she said, as the models say during connections, they want their own clothing, and vote for tips cheeky hot pants and Versace dresses were clearly agree.
We admit that a thin girl wearing white clothes in life what she wants. And after reading some of the creations stifling of Milan, like satin aquilano.rimondi, the dimples appear fabric on the abdomen, or the number of components in the summer seems Ferragamo (Harlequin tested crocodile leather coats, dresses, high boots with lace spaghetti) fashion puff Ms. Versace began to appear shiny.
Milan eager to make a big show of his clothes and crafts. It's like a guy with his beautiful red Ferrari, but unlike the Ferrari, what's "under the hood" is not necessarily to wear fun clothes. Ferragamo is a good example. Massimiliano Giornetti threw all the clothes. Notes for show PR staff uses "hyper-built" describe a trench coat. But it was obvious that Mr. Giornetti work not given enough. Where were the summer-weight fabrics, why so many western drives?
Giorgio Armani often starts mourning, to do things well, such as Armani model silly hats, for example, or trying to attract the interest of a short ball. But at least Mr. Armani does not try to fool anyone with his tailor. One or two of his jackets cut Sunday seemed woven leather or silk cord. They were extremely light as all the jackets and tops were among the fluid and wide-leg trousers and pale blue silk silver gray or organza.
If it were not for the bright fabrics and polishing days Armani jacket, could happen outfit for pajamas. In a fairly simple, Mr. Armani has updated his modern uniform. Aside from a few short films and long skirts, showed any device with pants for casual silhouette and still mobile. And models were free enough to work behind the scenes setting up for the final, but they were still attached to their hats.
Peter Dundas, with its pristine white coats hanging clothes Pucci, Angela Missoni trapeze dresses with sheer mesh: A number of designers are interested in the consistency and facilitate things. Ms. Missoni liked the idea of ??assigning numbers waiflike with his flowing robes, creating shades of coral and green with base. But it was also a good way to get the Missoni knits, without flag them completely surrounded.
Two influences hovering over the Milan Shows: Minimalism Raf Simons (of Dior Couture, as well as his latest collections from Jil Sander) and extreme volume boy Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Falls map. Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni clothing was visibly cleaner than usual, with peplums or folded pieces of fabric to make dresses skirt cotton black or white. In addition, peaks showed just with matching shorts.
On Sunday, I heard through the showroom to see Jil Sander collection. It was also the editor of InStyle buyer and Harvey Nichols in London. The response was extremely positive, as a publisher, reaching a loose white cotton twill dress, said: "I want to wear them now."
This review is more weight than a pattern?
This collection, Ms. Sander was back after an absence of eight years. . "Excellence in Manufacturing" She told Sarah Mower of Vogue she wants to be the motto of his company on the slope, saw Ms. Sander clothes much appeal to their basic shapes, and rounded - how including a men's jacket cotton mulberry in a knee-length dress female middy blouse in white cotton with a bit of momentum into the hem. A navy blue skirt cotton slim with a matching jacket trimmed a little attention by all, as well as deep pocketed blazer with shorts and summer dresses all cowards.
But when I saw the clothes more closely, I appreciated the currency Ms. Sander. If someone could not make these clothes, they should not be in business, because the building was not complicated at all. Obviously Ms. Sander raised some ideas if they worked with Uniqlo. Even when good people around them Sander, it is another designer have much less doctrinaire, judging by this collection. The complaint 10 years ago that his creations not feminine enough. Minimalist and modern, of course. Well, that's a big change.
The spirit of Karl Lagerfeld is a huge business of references, with a sense of the game in the collection of Fendi, where black-framed color blocked skirts and dresses seemed treated as folded paper construction. The colors are Lagerfeldian - indeed fall turquoise - and furs are often confused in tissues such as magic. Bags come hang as colored cubes, while the wand is a joke, its status with its own reader side pocket of a shopping bag.
At Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier had floral print dresses. Sizes with clean, sharp shoulders, a nice piste 40s, with the introduction of the raised platform pumps At best, his clothes suggest a cold indifference of fashion. This collection had lined feel with a touch of eccentricity in silver cocktail dresses, but the excessive amount of embroidery seemed old hat.

Philly Fashion Week 2012: Ready-to-Wear
While the collection of Philadelphia have ended on Thursday, the local fashion mania continued this weekend as Philly Fashion Week 2012 wrapped, hosting. His last two parades at 2424 Studios in Fishtown
Friday night show was ready-to-wear fashion to a total of ten designers, dedicated to local and national. After one or two hours late, Fanatic Dramtik finally. The party with their collection of cocktail dresses fun, futuristic
I started a little worried a few minutes later that the star modes to quickly switch flashy trash (or, as I wrote in my notebook seemed: "Ready-to-wear ... Club ... and only Club "). Apparently the urinary and revealing clothing is really in this fall. Even I could not help, please note that all models have the same rigs black or nude, some wore inappropriate hooker-esque.
Fortunately, there are still many great designers in the line-up, including ladies Aso Damisi. My other favorite local: Mah-Jing Wong and Pretty Rebel. I like the way bands and strategically placed cutouts Wong avant-garde pieces seem to really emphasize the natural shape of the woman. Meanwhile, the combination of peas, ruffles and bold floral patterns, Pretty Rebel has definitely appeal to my inner unshakable 12 years.
Anyway, without further ado, here are some of the many looks of the evening. Be sure to check tomorrow I am going to share photos from the show on Saturday night and my thoughts during the Philly Fashion Week 2012th

'Gossip Girl' Kelly Rutherford warned the dispute: "What happened?
"Gossip Girl" star Kelly Rutherford is the mother of two young children - but the only way they get to see these days is to take an international flight. Thank you for a preliminary ruling by a U.S. judge, Hermes (5 years) and Helena remain (3 years), in custody of her father to Monaco and France, where he has avoided trouble by his U.S. visa again.
This is a situation that was left Rutherford confused and upset, and she joined Savannah Guthrie TODAY Thursday with Star Jones legal outline next to discuss the case and where things go.
"I was just in France two weeks ago, and I will return at the end of the month," Rutherford said now about his frequent visits abroad, the children seen in the custody of his ex husband Daniel Giersch. "I talk to them on Skype, I have my alarm clock in the morning and call in the morning to hear their voices, when they wake up."
In theory, this is a temporary situation, as Giersch work to get his visa back - but take Giersch has room for years to get that far.
"He has no motivation to return to the country," said Rutherford. "They live in the house of a friend of his mother in France - it's not even in his name."
Jones added that every dish Giersch said, is that "good faith effort" shall mean a visa (not the reasons for which it was removed to be announced) to make. "Good faith efforts are extremely subjective," she said. "Americans have the right to due process and equal protection, and children are U.S. citizens, and they were actually deported to another country."
The situation is still ongoing at the moment, so that Rutherford in a painful position: it is under with "Gossip Girl" contract, but will be nothing more than with their children full-time. Even more frustrating is that the judge both Rutherford and Giersch said to be good parents. "If I won a parent, and I am the mother and I was the primary caregiver of the children ... I followed all court orders, while the judge asked me to do, what happened?" She asked.

Lady Gaga defends From Oscar de la Renta New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn
The singer with the square style writer of the review of the recent controversial creator fashion spring 2013.
Oscar de la Renta took a full page ad in Daily Wear late last week was an "Open Letter" fashion writer Cathy Horyn them to call a hot dog and suggesting that copied styles reprimanded Raf Simons "at Dior in the review of its spring 2013 airstrip collection occurs during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.
Horyn but do not think the review was negative. "The [hot dog] term was used in a professional context, as someone who shows his tricks, like an athlete," said Horyn WWD.
But de la Renta was not of his statements in the ad, which he backed down "the old stale hamburger 3 days."
The creator said he received numerous calls of support and a large bouquet of flowers. And supporters was none other than Lady Gaga, who he believes to be his disciples, tweeted 29.5m, writes: "Oscar Bravo Only you would be so chic than buying a full page in the WWD, making statements as citizens. good fashion. This is not the first smackdown Gaga Horyn. In his column in the September 2011 V Magazine, Gaga, exposing about "extreme fundamentalism critical," said: "In the era of the Internet, where collections and performances are so accessible to the public and anyone can review on Facebook or Twitter, should not columnists and reviewers, such as Cathy Horyn employ a modern and future-oriented critique that separates them from the average individual at home on her laptop computer? "

Michigan Fashion Week Makes Its Debut
Michigan Fashion Week (MFW) debuted to a crowded room of excited attendees, this past Saturday night, at the Southfield Civic Center. Fourteen designers
showcased their collections on the runway in the first-time fashion event. The list of designers to present showcases include: Siana Treece, Taylor Tankson,
Terry-Ann Phillips, Fanciee Clothing, Andrea Howell, Crystal White, Jaiden Shephard, Addiction Designs by Jamalia, Monica Lynn, Christine Mapondera, Johnny
Bomber, KAJ Elliott, Marvela Boutique, and Erika Hicks.
Upon entry, there were a few vendors lined up against the outer edge of the event that sold items of clothing, jewelry, and accessories. A live band played and
sang popular tunes in the background to keep guests grooving. There were also light refreshments provided to nibble on and blue punch to sip on.
Guests began to trickle in little by little. But by 7:00pm, groups of people steadily poured into the event. The designer showcase began 15 minutes later than
expected. However it kicked with an energetic intro from MFW creator, Loren Jordan and America’s Top Model cycle 9 finalist, Bianca Golden.
Bianca Golden wore a black flare dress, with black petals embellished on the front, and a sheer back. It was a simple yet sexy dress from the Ever Collection by
Erika Hicks.
Loren Jordan kept it sophisticated and fashionable as she appeared before the crowd in a long, charcoal gown with rhinestones around the neck. One of the major
points stressed about MFW was that it was one of the few fashion events that allowed designers to showcase their collections for free to the public.
Many different groups and forms of media provided their sponsorship to the event. The online artist network, Access4Artists, was among the most visible sponsors
at the event. After a few brief introductions and a lively performance by girl group, Lois Lane, the designer showcases began.
Before each runway presentation, each designer shared his or her fashion background and the inspiration for behind his or her collection. Crystal White described
her collection as “sexy, office chic” while designer Siana Treece described her collection as “secret garden” inspired.
Each designer brought a young and unique perspective to the collection they created. From Terry-Ann Phillips’ colorful and feminine collection to the urban,
casual vibe of Johhny Bomber’s clothing, there was a variety of fashion flavor to see.
Perhaps, the most impressive part of MFW was that many designers had only been designing for a few years yet were able to put together collections to present for
one of their biggest or first professional fashion events.
The models also brought their own style and personality to their struts down the runway. Overall, MFW drew a large crowd for its first year and gave upcoming
local designers an opportunity to step further into the fashion industry.
MFW came together in an organized fashion event in its first year and displayed a promise for more development as it progresses into the future. Like all local
fashion events, it will be the public’s embrace and the participation of local fashion talent that will determine the future success of MFW.

Harlem’s Fashion Row Celebrated Five Years at New York Fashion Week
DURING the recent spring shows in New York, a handful of New York designers and brands celebrated anniversaries. Harlem’s Fashion Row was among them.
The concept behind Harlem’s Fashion Row is simple enough. Brandice Henderson, its founder, was attending a fashion show in Brooklyn and thought her own
neighborhood, Harlem, deserved a showcase as well. She introduced Harlem’s Fashion Row in 2007 with a small show staffed by 15 volunteers.
Five years later, Harlem’s Fashion Row became the primary collective platform for designers of color during New York Fashion Week, enabling emerging artists to
showcase their talent among industry heavyweights, including top buyers, editors and bloggers.
Its Sept. 7 show at Lincoln Center drew such notables as Natalie Cole, Vanessa Williams and Nicole Murphy (Eddie Murphy’s former wife), who walked the runway
wearing a design by Omar Salam. Fashion insiders like Corynne Corbett, Essence magazine’s beauty director; Julee Wilson, the Huffington Post style editor; and
Fern Mallis, former executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, sat front row.
More than 300 people attended the presentation, which featured five designers. Nzinga Knight, inspired by a recent trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, showed
embellished pieces, including a blush gown with hand-embroidered mirror detail. Mr. Salam’s spring 2013 collection for Sukeina was marked by voluminous shapes
like a billowing silk organza tulip jacket worn over a lace dress. For her Ashtyn line, Latisha Daring sent kimono-sleeve jackets and tribal-printed skirts down
the runway. Joseph Bethune showed structured separates in camouflage and denim for the brand Bethune Brothers. Kevan Hall introduced a collection of crepe
sheaths, peplum dresses, petal skirts and gowns covered in tiered palettes.
But the show isn’t merely about clothes. The organization’s primary purpose is to push designers forward in the fashion business. “I hope that through H.F.R.
we create a company that acts as a bridge for designers of color to get into fashion,” Ms. Henderson said of Harlem’s Fashion Row.
The company grooms its designers, who were selected by a panel of judges in June. Applicants were asked to show pieces from past collections, explain their
business strategy, present their spring 2013 sketches and explain why they wanted to be a part of Harlem’s Fashion Row. Scores were tallied, and the five
highest-ranked designers were selected.
Once chosen, designers are given the opportunity to consult with leaders in the business. Ms. Mallis met with them throughout the selection process, and the
designer Stephen Burrows critiqued each piece of the designers’ collections, Ms. Henderson said.
Ms. Henderson, who has more than a decade of retail-buying and fashion-production experience, is optimistic about the future of Harlem’s Fashion Row. “We are
planning to launch an H.F.R. label in 2014 with a small capsule collection of products available on our Web site,” she said. “We are hoping that we can not
only show the designers’ collections, but also produce and market it for them. When this happens, everything changes.”
Row mode Harlem celebrates five years at the New York Fashion Week
In recent years, the spring shows in New York, a handful of New York designer brands and celebrating birthdays. Row Mode Harlem was among them.
The concept behind the clothing line of Harlem began simply enough. Brandice Henderson, founder, attended a fashion show in Brooklyn and thought of his beloved neighborhood, Harlem, deserves a separate track. She presented Row mode Harlem in 2007 with a small parade with 15 volunteers who work behind the scenes.
Five years later, his company is a collective genius of the most popular during Fashion Week in New York, to the designers worthy of a color platform. Originally a popular movement, Harlem line mode now allows young artists to present their talent with industry experts including key buyers, editors and bloggers.
Her show on 7 September at Lincoln Center was the fifth anniversary of the organization and has attracted names such as Natalie Cole, Vanessa Williams and Nicole Murphy (ex-wife of Eddie Murphy), who went on the show wearing a design by Omar Salam. Fashion insiders as Corynne Corbett, director of Essence magazine beauty Julee Wilson, editor of Huffington Post Style and Fern Mallis, CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America were snap.
More than 300 people attended the presentation, which consisted of five designers. Nzinga Knight, inspired by a recent trip to Dubai, showed pieces, including a dress adorned blush mirror hand embroidered details. Salam Omar spring 2013 collection for Sukeina was marked by voluminous forms a floating silk jacket worn over a tulip organza lace dress. For its line Ashtyn, sent Latisha Daring jackets kimono sleeves and tribal print skirts on the runway. Joseph Bethune debuted structured separates in camouflage and denim brand for Brothers Bethune. Kevan Hall presented a collection line, crepe peplum dresses, skirts and dresses covered in petals of pallets on multiple levels.
But the show is not just clothes. The main objective of the organization is to push forward color designers in the fashion industry. "I hope that by HFR we create a society that acts as a bridge for designers of color in fashion," said Mrs. Henderson. "At every fashion show, I hope it. Several buyer or investor to connect with designers"
Society maintains its designers, who were selected by a jury in June. This year, Ms. Mallis, Wilson, stylist and Shawn Outler Memsor Kamarake, vice president marked for forecasting fashion and Operations at Macy's, the hopes for a plot of five minutes. Applicants were invited to submit pieces from past collections, explain their business strategy in order to present their Spring 2013 sketches and explain why they want to be a part of the fashion line Harlem. Scores were counted, and the five were selected top rated designers.
Once selected, the designers have the opportunity to discuss with the leaders of the company. Ms. Mallis encountered during the selection process and designer Stephen Burrows criticized each piece designer collections. Them feedback on the fabric and design, Mrs. Henderson
Despite its success, the show was not without obstacles. Initially, Mrs. Henderson difficulties, people could convince HFR have a lasting impact on the diversity in the fashion industry. "So many veterans of the African-American fashion do not think we will be able to do much to increase the designers of color on the market," she said. "I remember that conversation ends with difficult:" We tried that before and it did not work. "
Now that the organization found their camp, the challenges have changed. The goal now is "to follow our growth," said Ms. Henderson. "People now expect more from us, and we see so many possibilities that may help push people toward the front of fashion color." Funded by the social partners, Row Harlem mode covers all costs related to production of the program and requires no fees for participating designers. "We hope to raise funds for designers in the future provide," said Ms. Henderson.
Mrs. Henderson lit when asked about the future of the fashion line Harlem. "We are planning to launch an HFR label in 2014 with a capsule collection of small number of products can be found on our website," she said. "Some of the designers we show a challenge in marketing and production. My background is in the production of clothes, so I want to use this experience to HFR to make the next phase. Hopefully we can show not only collections of designers, but also to produce and market them. When this happens, everything changes. The playing field is level and the door is wide open for the next generation of young designers. "

My Fashion Week Nightmare… with Eva Chen
Anyone who works in the industry has had ‘em: A fashion week related nightmare. We asked designers, editors and stylists to share
theirs with us, and then we asked our friend (and super talented artist) Mara Sprafkin illustrate them. Don’t be scared…
Yesterday, former Fashionista editor and current LuckyMag.com executive editor Lauren Sherman shared her horror story of falling into
the Gap (and giving birth there!). Today, Eva Chen shares with us a dream about a leopard print boat – nothing nightmarish about this
one!
I’d like to thank Roald Dahl’s BFG for this golden phizzwizard:
I’m in Sardinia on a Dolce and Gabbana leopard print boat. Yes, a leopard print boat. We’re having a feast of sorts: caprese salad,
pappardelle, the works. After our lunch, we lounge on the (yes, leopard print) deck before taking a dip in the sparkling blue waters. I
’m wearing a polka-dotted high-waisted bathing costume! Laughter all around and, oh, if only this dream could be a reality. Sigh!

Daily Dispatches: Day 1
About midday, after the Kimberly Ovitz runway show, Phil Oh, the street style photographer behind the blog StreetPeeper.com, stood out
in a cheerful turquoise and green turtle-print polo shirt by Michael Bastian. He seemed to embody Fashion Week wisdom. Slow and steady
wins the race?
Wishful thinking.
“Adderall,” said Mr. Oh, before snapping a few shots of editors crossing the West Side Highway. “That’s how I survive fashion
month.”
New York Fashion Week officially kicked off on Thursday, and nerves were already jangled, schedules strung tight.
That morning, the Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross was backstage at the BCBG Max Azria show in Lincoln Center, waiting, like
everybody else, for her seat. Ms. Richards-Ross, who landed at 5 a.m. from Los Angeles, wore a daring, see-through top with a wide
center strip. “It helps to have an athletic figure,” she said. That, and the couple of gold medals she brought came in handy. “They
go with everything,” she added, laughing. When she finally took her seat, a chorus of popping flashbulbs greeted her.
Even more popular for the cameramen was the reality star Whitney Port. The photographers lingered so long that a woman in the sixth row
commented, loudly, “C’mon, she’s not that exciting.”
By comparison, the atmosphere was civil at Richard Chai Love show, which took place immediately after. This was the first fashion show
for Russell Westbrook, a guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he looked the part, in his black-and-red suede sneakers and wire-
rimmed eyeglasses. “Sometimes, the N.B.A. feels like fashion week,” he said, of his stylish basketball cohorts. His front-row
seatmate, Nick Cannon, wore a brown baseball cap backward.
Downtown at Milk Studios, all eyes were on the Creatures of the Wind show. Sure, there were stars, but more of the industry kind. Then,
it was across the highway to Ms. Ovitz’s show at Pier 57, where her father, the Hollywood power player Michael Ovitz, was backstage,
while his girlfriend, Tamara Mellon, sat front row, stilettos crossed.
Into the afternoon, the schedule seemed to splinter. Some headed to men’s shows, while others to smaller presentations. And there was
Fashion’s Night Out to reserve energy for. Somewhere, in the afternoon lull, it seemed Mr. Oh was wise after all.

10 Awesome Innovations Changing the Future of Fashion
Textile production is dirty dirty dirty -- one of the dirtiest industries in the world in fact. Why? Partly because of the damage that
cotton crops and synthetic fiber production inflicts on the environment, and partly because of seriously outdated manufacturing methods
used to dye and finish fabric.
According to the United States Energy Administration, the textile industry in the U.S. is the 5th largest contributor to CO2 emissions
in the country.
But enough of the depressing stats: As consumers are becoming increasingly aware and clothing manufacturers are stepping up to more
environmental accountability, technology is taking off -- and there has been huge advances.
With New York Fashion Week strutting the catwalks September 6-13, it's a good time to take a closer look: From fabric out of food, beer
bottles and more to dying with air, and web sites that know your exact measurements, these 10 awesome technologies are changing fashion
as we know it.
Milk, tea and coffee tend to stick together...but not like this. As the high-tech sector is taking off in making fashion more
sustainable, other, more-humble, technologies are just as innovative -- and really, really cool. Case in point: Food products being
turned into wearable commodities.
German microbiology-student-turned-designer Anke Domaske uses milk to make a an "Eco Milk Fiber" called QMilch. High-tech sports
clothing company Virus uses recycled coffee beans for their Stay Warm line of cold-weather performance apparel. And the genius Suzanne
Lee, fashion designer and TED Senior Fellow, has been making fabric and vegetable leather out of...get this...the fermented tea,
kombucha. (Pictured above.)

New Names to Watch for Spring 2013 Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week is a strange combination of worshipping the big names while chasing after the new names. Here are a few designers to become acquainted with before their NYFW debut.
Marissa Webb
Jenna Lyons was the headliner in the great saga of J. Crew's turnaround from preppy stalwart to bastion of playful chic. But Marissa Webb was a supporting star. Formerly head womenswear designer for the brand, she left the Crew in 2011 to pursue her own eponymous line. Her NYFW debut will be on September 8. The Korean-born designer studied at FIT. From her website: "Her design aesthetic blends and juxtaposes elements of architecture and nature by mixing highly structured, tailored pieces with whimsical softness and flow." Sounds pretty J. Crew to me. Find some of her inspirations on her Pinterest.
Louise Goldin
This British export has been designing in London since 2008 but this season decided to bring her bright knitwear to New York. (Preen did defect across the pond this season, so we had to get something in return.) She collaborated on Kanye West's fashion line. It is rumored that Goldin fan Rihanna brought the two together. Goldin studied at Central Saint Martins and designed for Tereza Santos before going on her own. In her British Fashion Council profile she says her signature is "innovative programmed techniques where I create my own knitted fabric and textures, combined with structured, sculpted garments."
Tanya Taylor
Designer Tanya Taylor cut her teeth (and surely lots of fabric) as a designer at Elizabeth and James before starting her own collection last year. She studied at both Central Saint Martins and Parsons and is known for a subversion of classic pieces — a floral-print bomber jacket for instance. Her line is already carried by small boutiques around the world, but she is probably hoping a presence at New York Fashion Week gets her more high-profile distribution.
Katie Holmes and Jeanne Wang
It seems silly to include Katie Holmes in a list of new faces. But as familiar as her face is, it also seems strange to exclude her from a list of NYFW first timers to watch. Katie has been in the news constantly and will surely cause a commotion at NYFW with the first Holmes & Yang presentation. She is showing on September 9, up against pal Victoria Beckham who shows the same day. Believe it or not, the idea for the line came from the fact that these two didn't think there were enough expensive, luxurious basics on the market. Talk about a #firstworldproblem.

Australia’s First Indigenous Fashion Week Launches, Aboriginal Model Samantha Harris Gives Us the Deets
This week in Sydney, Australia’s first indigenous fashion week opened its door for business. Called Australian Indigenous Fashion Week (AIFW), the organization will be a platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers to showcase high quality traditional and contemporary fashion arts, textiles, accessories and furniture. The first year will include about 30 artists and designers, with shows set to kick off a year from now, in September 2013.
Australia’s Aboriginal culture is one of the oldest surviving cultures in the world, dating back over 60,000 years. It is a deeply spiritual culture with a belief system that is inextricably linked to land. Today, it is probably best known for its artistic tradition with the signature Papunya Tula ‘dot art’ style paintings easily recognizable around the world.
One of the main aims of AIFW is to improve the economic status of Aboriginal people by brokering relationships with local and international buyers. Beyond that, it is also a chance to celebrate indigenous designers and increase their profile. There have been a few recent examples of Aboriginal artists working with contemporary Australian brands. The label Antipodium collaborated with indigenous artists Barbara Merritt, Manapa Butler, Ruby McIntosh and Roy Merritt on a collection a few seasons ago, and recently the swimwear label Kooey worked with Aboriginal artist Anne Hanning Knwarreye on exclusive prints.
Less is known about Aboriginal fashion and design outside of Australia, though last year debate erupted over the reference of Aboriginal art in Rodarte’s fall collection. Rodarte properly licensed the textiles that they used and proceeds went to the artists involved, but it still angered Aboriginal law professor and member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Megan Davis. Hopefully the fashion week will be a chance to promote Aboriginal designers and artists in a context free of controversy.
AIFW organizers All The Perks, an indigenous owned and managed events company, tapped model Samantha Harris to be the face of the event. Harris is one of Australia’s top models and is also half Aboriginal on her mother’s side. We caught up with the stunning beauty to see what she had to say about the launch.

My Fashion Week Nightmare… with Simon Doonan
Anyone who works in the industry has had ‘em: A fashion week related nightmare. We asked designers, editors and stylists to share
theirs with us, and then we asked our friend (and super talented artist) Mara Sprafkin illustrate them. Don’t be scared…
To kick off the series, Erin Fetherston told us about her nightmare involving a stolen collection and a Smurf-colored jacket. Next up,
the incomparable Simon Doonan, Barneys’ Creative Ambassador-at-Large, has nightmares about watching his dog dry-hump a model on the
runway–while he looks on from standing!
I arrive at the Tents and nobody says hello and nobody tries to take my picture. What AM I? Chopped liver? I am carrying my dog
Liberace. I brought him along to make a great photo op. Nobody seems to agree with me. We move through the crowd and nobody ambushes me
about their new web site and nobody stuffs a resume in my hand and begs for a job. Nobody even makes eye contact. Gradually I realize
how much I always enjoyed being “bothered” by young hopefuls whenever I arrived at the shows. I look for my seat.
EEK! I am in “standing”…which means I am staring at the back of somebody’s legs. (I’m short.) Suddenly I realize that Liberace has
escaped. The show begins. I peak through my neighbors legs Liberace bum rushes the first model and begins humping her leg…I wake up
screaming.
Fall Fashion 101: Meet the New Stores on Robson Street
September means fall fashion. Vogue debuts its door stop fall fashion guide. Vancouver celebrates its first Fashion’s Night Out, Sept.
6, when retailers offer deep discounts for one glamourous night. Main St. hosts the autumn local designer show case Spend on Trend,
Sept. 14-16. But more on those events later.
In this post, I’ll cover the latest store openings in Vancouver’s main shopping corridor: Robson Street. If you’re shopping in
Vancouver, Robson Street is the favourite retail and strolling thoroughfare. It’s the second-most-expensive retail street in Canada
after Toronto’s Bloor Street. Although some speculated that Vancouver’s retail corridor would shift, Robson Street has rallied with
some exciting updates.
Even if you don’t need a first day of school outfit, there’s an irresistible urge to banish cut-offs and browse the richly-hued, new
season window displays.
Here’s where to look.
As Vancouver prepares to celebrate its first Fashion’s Night Out, a sure sign of growing style scene, some big name retailers have
opened doors on the Robson strip.
J.Crew, the prom queen/king of American classy, opened doors in late April at 1088 Robson Street. J.Crew does office appropriate and
casual wear for guys and gals. According to this article, J.Crew aims to open as many as 25 stores across the country.
Camper, the Spanish shoe mega brand that proved orthopedic comfort can be stylish, opened this August at 1101 Robson. CB2 (furniture,
not fashion) opened spacious digs at 1277 Robson this February, attracting a crowd with their mod furnishings.
Forever 21, where flick young folks enter and emerge hours later, clutching bulging yellow bags of inexpensive fashion, is set to open
this September. If you feel like you’ve seen the “coming soon” sign up for ages, you’re right. They originally said April.
When HMV (the 35,000-square-foot, two level store at Robson and Burrard) closed, they left a gaping hole. But good news: The Vancouver
Sun reports that Victoria’s Secret will set up a flagship store in the former HMV. “After nearly a year of negotiations, the company
will take possession in September, and is expected to open for business in May 2013.”
Nearby, the downtown Sears (701 Granville St.) is closing doors by October 31. Media buzz indicates upscale department store Nordstrom
is moving in, bringing with it high end labels like Diane von Furstenberg and Jason Wu.

DIY Fashion: How to Make Knotted Hair Ties
Knotted hair ties are the new scrunchies this year. You’ve probably seen them on your favorite fashion blogger, in your favorite
store, or with the regular hair elastics at the drugstore.
Knotted hair ties are not only great for your hair since they don’t have damaging metal edges, but they can also be worn as bracelets
without being too tight on your wrist. In addition, they come in every style from neon to glitter. The downside is they run from about
$3 to $15 a pack… and we all know how quickly hair ties disappear.
This DIY will show you how to make your own knotted hair ties at a fraction of the cost – these are seriously the all-time easiest
hair accessories to make. Ready to get started? Read on!
What you’ll need:
Foldover elastic (I bought mine here.)
Ruler
Scissors
Ribbon (optional)
Needle & thread (optional)
1. Measure 8.5″ of elastic. You may want to cut a longer piece, depending on whether you want to wear your hair tie on your wrist and
how tight you want it to be. I found that this length fits best around my wrist. Cut the elastic at a slight angle to help with
fraying.
2. Wrap the elastic around your fingers to form a loop, then tie a knot. Leave about 1/4″ on the ends. Avoid pulling on the edges to
since this will make the ends fray. Make sure you don’t tie the knot in the middle or your hair tie will be too small
3. Make more! You can also dab Elmer’s glue on the edges so the elastic won’t fray, which will make them last longer and stay pretty.
4. Optional: Add a bow. Using a piece of ribbon, tie a bow, cutting the edges at an angle to prevent fraying. Make sure the ends are
even and the silky side is showing.
5. Sew the ribbon onto the elastic using a needle and thread. It doesn’t need to be neat – no one will be able to see the back. Just
try to avoid threading through the top of the bow. Knot the thread after about 3-5 stitches.
You can also make headbands with this elastic. Measure about 20″ of elastic. Again, you may have to adjust the length, but I found
this length worked for me. One way to get an accurate length is to measure the elastic against a headband that fits you well, and add 1
″ to that length (for tying the knot). Use the same method to tie the elastic as above and add glue to the edges to help prevent
fraying over time. These can be worn around the wrist doubled over.
This is seriously the easiest DIY project ever and is an amazing way to save some money on a trend. I bought about 11 yards of elastic
for $11, which will make me about 45 hair ties! You can make them as gifts, or tie the top of a gift with one to make a pretty and
usable gift topper. There are so many fun color choices, and they double as bracelets so you can always wear one on your wrist for hair
emergencies!
What do you think?
